Colleen Schroeder, 46, of Hainesport, is accused of taking more than $700 in cash found missing from the main office at the Helen L. Beeler Elementary School in late February, Evesham police said on Monday, March 4.

The Evesham Township School District superintendent issued a statement saying that Schroeder was already on an unrelated leave and will remain on leave pending the outcome of the case.

The money that was stolen belonged to the Evesham Township School District, police said.

On Friday, March 1, Schroeder was arrested without incident, and released on a summons, police said.

Schroeder was released pending a first appearance hearing at Burlington County Superior Court.

Evesham Township School District Superintendent Justin Smith released the following statement:

“The Evesham Township Board of Education is aware that Colleen Schroeder, the Beeler Elementary School Principal was arrested and charged with Theft. The District has been in contact with the Evesham Police Department and fully intends to cooperate with the Police Department. Ms. Schroeder is currently on an unrelated leave. The District takes an accusation of Theft seriously, and Ms. Schroder will remain on leave pending the adjudication of this matter. Due to the pending criminal charges, the Board is not able to comment further at the time. Please be reminded that all are presumed innocent until proven guilty.”
